Darkest moment ...

Certain events in our lives, weigh heavier than others, on our hearts and in our minds.
One event in particular, try have I, to forget ...
Has simply forged itself, deep within my memory, never to be forgotten.
An event so hurtful, so heartless, without just cause.

Back in 1999, while I lived in Vancouver, a single mom, simply trying to make ends meet, I came to realize that things weren't going so well for me, for us and it was time to leave this city and return home, to more familiar grounds.

I quit my job.
Gave my landlord notice that we were moving and sublet our apartment.
Put a $200 deposit on a moving truck.
Purchased 2 one-way plane tickets to Montreal, at a cost of $400 each, the last of our money.
I proceeded to gather up what we needed and sold everything else we could not afford to move,
e.g. beds, sofas, furniture, etc ...

10 days before we were to leave, I get a call from my brother in Montreal ...
A call I will never forget.
A call that forever changed my life.
A call that almost ended my life ...

His words, so heartless, so careless, so evil ...

"So I hear you are planning to return to Montreal?
What ever gave you the idea you were welcome back here?"

When our conversation ended, I immediately burst into tears.
I have never felt so alone in my life, until that moment.
The only image I had, was that of running a nice warm bubble bath,
for my son and I, including our electric toaster.

I had ...
No job.
No money.
No apartment, no home, no other place to go.
No way of retrieving my deposit from the moving company.
No way of getting my money back from Air Canada, as our tickets were non-refundable.
No family.
No support.
No help.
Nothing, we had nothing.

It is a true miracle, looking back, as had it not been for a friend, who sensed something was wrong and came over right away, I would not be writing this story here for you to read.

Do I still speak to my brother?
Do I still speak to my mother, who allowed such a thing to happen?

The answer is YES ...
As I am all heart and must forgive.

Do they remember this?
If they did, perhaps I would be treated differently.

Unfortunately, remorse is not part of their DNA.

As long as I live I will forever remain ...
- Easilly discarded
- Easilly forgotten
- Easilly replaced
- Easilly abused

No matter how much good I do, their perception of me, the way they feel about me, the way they treat me, will never change.

I must change.

Happy 50th Birthday

They say, all things happen for a reason ...
Had my husband not lost his job,
Had he not filed for bankruptcy,
Had we not lost our home,
Had we not been forced to move,
I would never have met this woman,
This gem, this rare pearl,
My angel in disguise.

My dear Mony, today you celebrate your 50th!
I cannot even tell you how weird that sounds,
As you do not look a day over 40!
I wish you only the best out of life,
All bundled up in smiles, hugs and laughter.

You are an exceptional woman.
How lucky I am to have you in my life.
We met in the worst of times,
And you never left my side,
Always encouraging me to do better,
To see further, to never give up ...

Where I would be without you,
My dearest of dear friends.
One thing is for certain,
You can make the sun shine,
On the cloudiest of days, in my life ...

Happy Birthday Mony!
Here's to many more to come!
I love you!

The Missing Piece

It's not enough to want.
It's not enough to do, to try.
It's not enough to pray, to hope, to dream,
or even to desire, or crave.
It takes that one person, only one soul,
who believes in you enough,
to offer you a once in a lifetime opportunity.
That one moment in your life,
when a door opens ...
After so many years of circling round and round,
having fallen flat on your face,
multiple times ...
That one person, one moment, one door.
I know of many who have gotten their chance,
how easily they have forgotten,
that they too were once in my shoes.
They only look down upon me,
as they snicker and snarl ...
"You aren't trying hard enough!"
"You aren't doing enough!"
Nothing in life has ever come easy.
No handouts needed.
No pity party, please.
Not a single ounce of pride to be lost ...
Just a simple chance, is all I ask.
A chance to prove myself.
A chance to truly shine.
One person, one soul, one moment,
is all that's needed ...
That proverbial "Golden Opportunity".
Where is it?
When will I get my chance?
